Artists:
“Surface Knowledge” explored the way surfaces (land, body, facade, object, screen mirror, and light) form experience and knowledge. The six nights were conceived as a cross-generational and cross-disciplinary space of experience. It included feature films (Andrei Ujica), shortforms (Thirza Cuthand, Gunvor Nelson, Ana Mendieta, Sondra Perry, Pipilotti Rist, Superstudio), live narrations (Ellie Ga, Jennifer Peterson), visual lecture (Daniel Paul), concert (Jerome Ellis), and conversations (Joan Jonas and Kris Paulsen for the opening night).
Each program approached one facet of the surface, engaging various partners (Triple Canopy, Cabinet, French Embassy, EAI) as well as disciplines and audiences (ecology, gender studies, psychology, architecture, technology).
